The Birth of Alex Moler (1941-?) – violinist, pianoist, illustrator, composer, lyricist
Year
1941
Story
Born Olek Malarz Nov 7 1941, no baby photos exist. Rumours are that he was adopted, or possibly very ill as a baby. This left him hospitalised for most of his early childhood and stunted his growth. Father was a Jew in the Communist Party, working as a violin builder in Poland, and musician also. Mother was a nurse. He leart violin and piano at an incredible level, and loved to draw and illustrate. His early inspirations were Jascha Heifetz, Yehudi Menuhin, Yiddish folk songs, Gypsy swing, jazz, contemporary classical, Prokofiev, Franz Liszt, Bela Bartok, Django, Spike Jones, Charles Ives and Ellington. Moved to New York in 1956 and busked on the street with brother Isaac. Formed gypsy band for busking with Isaac and Derek Bounty in 1956. Is considered the brains (or Lennon) behind the Colors though his brain begins to fail him as he developed paranoia and delusions after his trip to India in 1962. He checked into a mental hospital in 1970 after a self-diagnosis through song. Has been out of contact with the world for many years, rumoured to have died.
