The Birth of Isaac Moler (1943-) – guitarist, songwriter, lyricist, poet

Year

1943

Story

Born Izio Malarz Mar 6 1943. Aspired to be as virtuosic as brother Alex but could never reach his brother's heights. Into cardtricks, sport, girls. Isaac picked up the guitar on arrival in New York after seeing Django Reinhardt play live in Europe. He met another Polish Jew, Hugh Jean O”Reilly, shortly after arriving in New York while busking on the street. O’Reilly was a singer songwriter who shortly joined the band and brought his Woody Guthrie inspired tunes to the band. Isaac became obsessed with lyrics and songwriting. Was influenced more by people, theatre, plays, words, Gershwin, American folk, Polish folk than his brother. He was too scared to fly after a plane crushes in India in 1962 which the Colors were late for. On his return to New York he voweled to never fly again, and to always be late. In 1970 he returned from doing a gig on a cruise ship with his new lover Scott McTavish who later left Isaac for the bass player of the band, Jorge Estaban, though Jorge died prematurely in 1973. This reunited the band. Scott headed back to Scotland in 1974, too homesick for American life.
